Back to the Grind…

Its been a while since I updated last, nearly two months.   Unfortunately, after being here just over 4 months, I had to return to Canada because my father was terminally ill.    I stayed in Canada a month, then returned to Dubai. I’ve been home about a month, and we are just starting to feel normal again after what was a terribly emotional and heartbreaking time.

I’m cheating a bit – I’m going to create a few new posts today and back date them to the day they actually happened.  This will include a post about “Alice’s Birthday at Wild Wadi’s“, “Ice Skating at the Dubai Mall“, “The beach again!“, and “Last time at the Beach for us!“.  So, if you have any interest don’t hesitate to scroll back and take a peek.

As for today, we joined a library called “The Old Library”.  I am happy I went in forewarned not to expect too much because compared to even a small town library in Canada this library is tiny, I’d say it has less than 1/25th of the books for children that the central branch of the LPL.  Still, we have only a dozen picture books here and that is not enough to foster a love of reading so we signed up, paid for our membership and went off to the races. Elaine picked out one hefty novel and Alice got an assortment of picture books.  We are still on a quest to find books for Alice’s literacy class!

Last time at the Beach …

Well, we went to the beach and it was not nearly as pleasant as previous visits.  The heat was extreme (43C) and unfortunately there wasn’t a hint of breeze.  Additionally, the sea was like bathwater and offered little relief from the heat.  Contributing to only a partial enjoyment were the currents and high waves that made it impossible for the girls to play at the edge of the water.

The girls still managed to have fun though.  Elaine ‘saw a fish’ and spent most of her time with her head underwater trying to catch it.  Alice was turned into a magical sandy mermaid.

Dan and I both ended up dehydrated and we headed home after only an hour and a half.

I think this will be the last time at the beach for us, unless we head out very early in the morning or later in the evening.
